Anderson Nogueira and Susie Smith, Umbela Brasil
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Nogueira grew up in the north east of Brazil in Olinda. Said to have danced before he walked, Anderson is a professionally trained dancer and for the past 15 years has been the lead dancer and choreographer for Naçao Pernambuco, one of the largest and most significant cultural dance groups in the north eastern state of Brazil; Recife. Anderson also coordinates Naçao Pernambuco for Carnaval each year, which comprises some 200 drummers and dancers, including all of their costumes, choreographies, and travel details across four major cities.
Anderson is a highly sought after performer and teacher and has regularly toured Brazil and over the last 10 years has worked in Paris, Bulgaria, Italy, the USA and China.
Specialising in popular dances of Brazil, especially those of cultural or regional significance, Anderson has been invited by Umbela Brasil and Dance Central to come to Australia on a cultural exchange, to enhance and add to the growing popularity of Brazilian dance in Australia, and to bring new skills to local dancers.
