Angelo Salgado

Angelo is a dancer, instructor and choreographer from São Paulo, Brazil and has 14 years of experience as a dance teacher. He has developed a method of teaching Brazilian dance in Australia where he created Groove Brazil, which has already become one of the top Brazilian dance academies in this country.

Angelo was recently awarded with a distinguished talent visa and Australian permanent residence in the arts field; one of the most difficult visas to be granted.

Internationally he has choreographed, performed and taught at the 2nd International Zouk Lambada Congress in Barcelona; Spain (2006), at the International Brazilian Dance Congress, Br Danças; Rio de Janeiro (2007/2008) where he took the first group of Australian students to perform in Brazil. This year Angelo performed zouk and samba de gafieira at the New Zealand Salsa Congress. He was also invited to teach at the Malaysia Salsa Congress (2009) and from the International Dance Council to participate at the 23rd World Congress on Dance Research, Greece (2009).

In Brazil, he was awarded 1st place in competitions, participated on television programs, commercials and shows with Brazilian celebrities. He was chosen to participate on the DVD album of the singer Frank Aguiar (2005) and to work in a popular soap opera 'A Escrava Isaura', broadcast nationally for more than 180 million people in Brazil (2004).

In Australia Angelo has been invited to perform Brazilian dance and also conduct workshops in samba de gafieira and zouk lambada at the Sydney Salsa Congress (2006/07/08/09), the biggest Latin dance event in Australia. He has also performed and conducted workshops at the Darwin Latin Dance Festival (2007) and at the 1st Brazilian Dance Congress in Brisbane (2008).

Last year (2008) Angelo was invited to choreograph a group of 50 dancers to perform at the Suncorp stadium in Brisbane for a crowd of 15,000 people in an international match between Queensland Roar and Palmeiras organised by the Queensland government in a campaign against racism. He has participated teaching samba at the children's television program Toasted TV and choreographed the multicultural video "Song Australia" for SBS television, teaching a routine to over 280 people including celebrities, seen by millions of viewers around Australia. Angelo organises Brazilian parties, teaches classes, runs workshops and promotes Brazilian culture at many different cities around the country.

Angelo's unique talent, style, charisma and dance skills have taken him to be recognised internationally as an exceptional artist and professional Brazilian dancer. He was chosen by the president of Brazilian Dance Association to be the official representative of its Association in Australia.
