Claudio Climaco (Professor Caracol), Zambiacongo Capoeira Group
Capoeira blends elements of self defence, dance, music, ritual and acrobatics. It should not be portrayed purely as a physical art. By combining these elements, it shows people that martial arts embody the mind, body and spirit. Anyone can find some form of identity in capoeira. It can be enjoyed for the strength of the self-defence or solely for the music and movement.
The Zambiacongo Capoeira group has a strong commitment to the development of the art and culture of capoeira in Australia, maintaining its integrity and authenticity.
The group was founded in Salvador, Brazil on August 1st 1988 by renowned master Geni. His son, master Luizinho brought Zambiacongo to Australia in 1996.
Claudio Climaco (Professor Caracol) was born in Brazil and trained under his Father as a child extending his training with other masters in his hometown of Goiânia. In 1998 Claudio "Caracol" began teaching in Brisbane establishing the first full time capoeira academy in Brisbane. As well as running regular classes and workshops at schools and universities around Australia, he has also worked with underprivileged persons and refugees, using capoeira as a tool for social re-integration.
In 2002 Caracol made the top 10 in the World Capoeira Championship organised by Group Muzenza in Curitiba – Brazil.
