Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Zouk, Lambazouk, Lambada Zouk, or Zouk Lambada?…

Well the short answer is that they are all variations of the same thing – lambada danced to zouk music! Whilst you may see some of the above mentioned variations in style represented in our workshops, we called our congress "Zouk Lambada" because we felt it best described the genre as a whole.

Be warned – In the French Caribbean where zouk music originates, they dance a style of zouk that bears no resemblance to zouk lambada that is danced in Brazil!

I have no training or experience, are there any workshops for me?

A congress is a workshop intensive and as such we expect that participants will have at least done a foundation level course with a specialist Brazilian dance academy to be able to do a beginner level workshop.

Those with ballroom experience or other partner dance experience may be able to convert and do a beginner level workshop. For more information and to check if your experience is suitable, please Contact Us.

What sort of footwear and clothing should I wear for the workshops?

Flat, soft soled shoes such as jazz sneakers are used for dancing zouk lambada, and for women, high heeled dance shoes are required for samba de gafieira, samba no pé, bolero and soltinho.

Cool, comfortable clothing is essential however we would like to uphold certain standards:

  • No shorts for men.
  • Please consider the comfort of your dance partner and bring a towel, deodorant, breath mints and several changes of shirt.
