The Brazil Central Zouk Lambada Congress 2009 has truly been the highlight of my dancing life….

My favourite moment personally was on the final night when the circle was formed and all of the internationals danced in the centre. Just before that moment I was completely drained of energy …yet, feeling the energy in the room with the internationals dancing in the centre completely lifted me, put a massive smile on my face and spurred me on to dance non-stop for the rest of the night. What a buzz! The word Axé is used in Capoeira to describe the positive & powerful energy created in a strong Roda and I felt that this term perfectly applied to this moment. Electric! …

The Brazil Central Zouk Lambada Congress 2009 has truly been the highlight of my dancing life.

Everything about the congress was a success...

Having so many of the world’s top dancers and DJs in the one event, and having them teach the vast majority of the workshops (not just one each) was something special. I loved that the internationals were always around and approachable, both during the daytime and on the dancefloor until the very last song every night. Everyone could see that they truly enjoyed being here.

From an organisational point of view it seemed that all of the little details that can spoil a good congress as a participant were comprehensively covered: workshops and performances started on time, the sound systems were bug-free, there was a great choice of food at the venue, the workshop spaces and dancefloors were suitable (not carpet, tiny rooms or super slippery floors), there was clear signage of workshop times and maps, and there were always staff and volunteers around to help out with any enquiries.

There were so many memorable moments in the congress. The attached photo is a shot I took from one of Mafie and Ruanita’s workshops, with everyone swarming to record the content taught during the workshop. To me this typifies how much everyone wanted to absorb all that we could from the internationals.

Just before that moment I was completely drained of energy after 3 solid days of workshops, social dancing, lack of sleep, and performing twice within 10min – all I felt like doing was crashing out on my bed - ...yet, feeling the energy in the room with the internationals dancing in the centre completely lifted me, put a massive smile on my face and spurred me on to dance non-stop for the rest of the night. What a buzz! The word Axé is used in Capoeira to describe the positive & powerful energy created in a strong Roda and I felt that this term perfectly applied to this moment. Electric!
